In the tiniest little village of Aboyne, about midway between Elora and Fergus, sits the oldest remaining rural House of Industry and Refuge in Canada. Commonly known as the Poor House, it was a place for the poor, homeless and destitute and operated until 1947. A National Historic Site, it now houses the Wellington County Museum & Archives, and is one of our favourite afternoon visits while cycling along the Elora Cataract Trail.
